How did we start?

Way back when....

Welcome to the Aztec Baseball League. This league was created in June of 2008. The league was created to fill the void left by the disbanding of the Pomona Baseball league. The Pomona Baseball league had been around for over 22 years and was lead by Max Gonzales. Max decided he had had enough and disbanded the very popular Pomona Baseball League.
After some debating, Jose and I decided to create a new baseball league to fill the void left by the Pomona Baseball league. In our first season we started with only 28 teams. We struggled to secure fields and to get additional teams to join us. We have been fortunate that we have been able to keep our new league moving forward.
Jose and I wanted to keep as much of the successful Pomona league as possible. We kept certain rules such as all players must wear the same uniform. We also added other parts that we thought would help us make our league that much better.
We added a league web page. We use cell phone camaras to send league pictures and to better communicate with all our teams. We have pictured rosters to help discourage "ringers". We eliminated the pay per player structure to allow teams to add and subtract additional players at no additional costs.
In our first three years of existense, we grew to at times over 50 teams a season. We have added All Star games with other nearby leagues. Our goal is to make the Aztec Baseball league the best and most cost effective baseball league in the Inland Empire.

New Teams/Players

Are you interested in joining our league?

New Teams   interested in joining our league need to know a few things before getting started. First thing is our league plays a 10 or 14 game season. The cost at the time of this webpage is $1,200 for 10 game season if the full amount is paid prior to the start of the season. All teams must also have a refundable $100 umpire deposit before any game (League or practice)can be scheduled. We play approximately two seasons per year. Our playoffs are normally single game elimination but there are exceptions. Our league uses pictures to show team rosters. An electronic photo of each player is needed to create the league roster webpage. Usually players use their phone cameras to submit their roster pictures. Rosters are used starting with the 3rd game of the season. All team members must all wear identical uniforms. Teams are responsible for their own uniforms. For additional information go to our FAQ page or our New team downloadable pdf file under other links.

Umpire fees: Each team is responsible for paying their respective umpire fees at each game. Current fees are $70 for two umpires and $60 each team for one umpire during the regular season. Umpire playoff fees are $90 regardless of the number of umpires. Teams are provided 2 league approved baseballs.

The best time to join us is either at the near end of a season or exactly at the mid way point of the season. I would suggest you attend one of our league meetings to get more information about joining.
